Habang isinusulat ito, kasalukuyang nagaganap sa Liwasang Bonifacio sa Maynila ang isang rally laban sa katiwalian sa ilalalim ng administrasyong Gloria Macapal-Arroyo. Pinangungunahan ito ng mga kabataan at ayon sa CBCPNews.com ay inaasahang dadaluhan ng may 10,000 katao muna sa iba’t ibang sektor ng lipunan.

Ganito ang pahayag ng Youth Act Now, ang alyansa ng mga student organizations, councils at publications sa iba’t ibang paaralan sa Pilipinas na nanguna sa pagtawag ng rally: “The government has lost its moral ascendancy to govern due to the long list of scandals, electoral fraud and corruption issues that have mired its rule. The Arroyo administration has long ceased to perform as a role model government for the youth. It has caused the widespread disillusionment among young people and have been a disappointment to the youth’s desire to instill reforms in government.”

Mary Magdalene: a prostitute or a beloved apostle of Jesus?

The title of Dr. Jose Rizal’s book, Noli Me Tangere, was taken from the words uttered by the resurrected Jesus Christ to Mary Magdalene on the very first Easter: “Don’t hold me, for I haven’t ascended to my father.” (John 20:17)

Emilio Aguinaldo’s nom de guerre, Magdalo, is from the name of Mary Magdalene, Kawit Cavite’s patron saint.

These may come as a surprise to many believers as the image of Mary Magdalene’s in our collective psyche is far from ideal.

This writer asked his cyberfriends on Twitter.com, a social networking site: “Who is Mary Magdalene?” Of the two who replied, one said: “the prostitute in the Bible that was saved by Christ?”

Mary Magdalene is known to many as a reformed whore. In the vernacular, the term “Magdalena” has since carried the subtext of a prostitute.

Ang mga obispo at ang reyna

Bago ganapin ang pulong ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) nitong Pebrero 26, 2008, naisip kong sa halip na ipagdasal na ang mga obispo ay manawagan ng pagbibitiw ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, dapat ay ipanalangin nating ipakita ng Banal na Espirito sa kanila ang tamang kalalagyan sa kasalukuyang usapin.

Masyado na kasing malalim ang kumunoy ng kalintikang kinasadlakan ng ating bayan. Tila kulang ang pagkilos ng mga tao para makaahon tayo. Sa tingin ko, ang anumang gagawin natin ay dapat na may gabay at basbas ng Nasa Itaas.
